# Update an Applied Schema Template

Update a draft policy from its applied schema template.

Update a draft policy after its template changes. See [Schema Templates](/technical-information/users/standard-registry-users-schemas-and-policies/schemas/schema-templates.md) for how the comparison works.

## Prerequisites

* You are signed in as a Standard Registry user.
* Your role carries permission to manage draft policies and schema templates.
* The policy is a draft with a schema template applied.

## Steps

1. Open the draft policy with the applied template.
2. Select **Update Schema Template**.
3. Choose the template version to apply.
4. Review the comparison preview, which groups the differences by schema and by field.
5. Resolve any reported conflicts.
6. Confirm.

## Result

The policy takes the selected template changes, and its stored snapshot and binding are updated.

## Troubleshooting

**Why does the update report a conflict?**\
The policy and the selected template version both changed or deleted the same sub-schemas, and neither change can be applied safely on its own. In the comparison preview, choose which version to keep: keep the deleted schemas in the policy, or delete them. Resolve every conflict before confirming.
